Winter Movies
by Emma E. Smith
The Hobbit:
“The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice.” Directed by Peter Jackson coming out on december 17
Annie:
“Academy Award® nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) stars as Annie, a young, happy foster kid who's also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they'd be back for her someday, it's been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). But everything's about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) - advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) - makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. Stacks believes he's her guardian angel, but Annie's self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it's the other way around.”
Directed by Will Gluck rated PG coming out december 19
Unbroken:
“A chronicle of the life of Louis Zamperini (Jack O'Connell), an Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War II. John Magaro will play Frank A. Tinker, an Air Force dive bomb pilot and opera singer who befriends Zamperini en route to a Japanese POW camp.”
Directed by Angelina Jolie rated pg-13 coming out on december 25
Into the Woods :
“Into the Woods is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.”

Big Hero 6
By Maura Kilcoyne
On Friday November 7, I had the pleasure of seeing Disney’s latest movie, Big Hero 6. Overall, I thought the movie was entertaining and fresh. There was never a dull moment. Everything happened back to back. I love to see that in movies because it tells me that the creators really tried to get as much action as possible into the film.
My favorite parts of the entire film were the scenes where Hiro, the main character, was trying to teach Baymax how to fight and the scenes following the end credits. If you have not seen the movie yet, I would definitely recommend staying for the credits.
There was only one thing that bugged me about the movie: the lack of scenes with Hiro’s friends Fred, GoGo Tomago, Wasabi, and Honey Lemon. They could have played bigger roles, and had no real backstories.
According to Box Office Mojo, Big Hero 6 has made $148,317,471 Worldwide at the box office, ranking 1st for the past week of November 7th-13th. I would absolutely recommend this movie. The film sends a great message about applying one’s talent to making the best of a situation, and I’m certain you will fall in love with Baymax!

The Duggar's Continue to Grow!
by: Hannah Chan
The reality television show 19 Kids and Counting continues to add to their family. Jessa, 22, is the third Duggar child to tie the knot, following in the footsteps of her older siblings, Josh and Jill.
Jessa and husband, Ben Seewald,19, were married on November 1st in front of a 1,000 guests, including celebrities like Kirk Cameron. A beautiful bride, Jessa wore a blush tone dress from Allure’s Modest Collection with a heart shaped necklace, which Ben gave to her when they started courting. The dashing groom, Ben wore a navy suit with a coral bow tie. The wedding party, definitely Duggar size, consisted of eleven bridesmaids, dressed in modest coral, ten groomsmen dressed up in navy blue pants with suspender, a gray dress shirt, and a coral bow tie, and two flower girls
Jessa’s wedding was what you would think of as a tradition wedding. First, ice cream sundaes replaced the wedding cake. Second, the usual white wedding dress was replaced with soft pink. However, the most shocking event happened at the alter! When the pastor exclaimed the famous lines, “I now pronounce you husband and wife.” The newlyweds had their own idea of their first kiss, dashing down the aisle, sharing the first kiss in private. This unique family continues to pave their own path in life and in weddings!

Dogs rescued from Puppy Mill
By Bill Tong
Recently, over 50 dogs and 6 cats have been rescued from a puppy mill in Rutherford County, N.C. Investigators discovered a woman tried in 2002 with animal cruelty charges.
The dogs, mostly of small breeds, were kept in deplorable conditions with a wide assortment of problems, such as matted fur, skin, eye and ear infections, and a host of parasites, living in their own waste. Several had died, others needed urgent veterinary care in order to survive
Authorities confronted the facility after hearing complaints of animal abuse. A woman with charged with animal cruelty, and with previously selling animals over the internet.
“The dogs were forced to live in an gregarious environment where profit was put above the welfare of animals,” said North Carolina state director for the HSUS Kim Alboum. “We're thankful to Rutherford County Animal Control for catching up to this repeat offender and that we were able to help these animals."

Fall/Winter Fashion Trends 2014
BY KARINA PATEL
Girls, are you rushing to get ready every morning? Can’t find an outfit that’s cute but still comfy? Well here are some tips on getting ready in a rush this Fall and Winter! One of the latest trends this Fall season is incorporating military clothing into cute outfits. Things like combat boots and army green twill jackets are Fall staple pieces and will compliment any outfit this season.
Another trend this fall season is slim crop tops with high rise skater skirts. This is the perfect year-round outfit but you might be thinking; isn't it too cold? Don't worry! You can still wear this cute outfit in the colder seasons just by adding a pair of knit tights and a jacket. Your fave outfit--just...warmer! Another way to make this outfit better for the colder months is to use deeper colors like burgundy, navy, gray, gold, royal blue, and purple. You can also wear your favorite dresses this season just by layering sweaters or cardigans over them!
Now we all have those days when we’re in a rush to get ready so here are some tips! If you want to be comfy but still want to be somewhat presentable, jean leggings are the way to go. They look like jeans but are stretchy and soft like leggings, just don’t get them confused with jeggings. Just throw on a sweater and some boots and you’re good to go! Printed leggings are also very trendy, and comfy for the colder seasons. You can dress them up with a nice top or dress them down with an over-sized sweater, either way these printed bottoms are super cute!
Boys, don’t worry, there are tips for you too! Basketball shorts and t-shirts may be comfortable, but why not try a different look once in a while? Joggers are in and can be a substitute for your basketball shorts during the cold weather. Khaki pants are also trendy and can be worn with button-down shirts and polos. Have a favorite graphic tee but its too cold to wear it? Just by adding a flannel shirt not only will you be warmer but the plaid pattern brings the t-shirt to the next level.
As you can tell, there are plenty of options out there for this season. Step out of your comfort zone and try a new look, you might surprise yourself! Style on, my friends.

Once Upon A Time: Season 4 is Frozen Over
By Maura Kilcoyne
On September 28, ABC aired the first episode of the 4th season of their hit show Once Upon A Time. Emma Swan, Snow White, Regina and the rest of the gang are back!
This season includes Elsa and Anna’s story (the main characters from the hit movie Frozen), post movie. I personally find this show very eye catching. Every episode ends with a cliffhanger and keeps me on the edge of my seat. I personally love the new season so far. The directors have always been so good at staying to the original Disney story and they are still doing a fantastic job. I have no words for the costumes. They are absolutely stunning. Elsa’s costume is especially beautiful. Eduardo Castro, the costume designer, is very talented. The cast is just as good! Elizabeth Lail, who plays Anna, was a great choice for the role. This season has 30% more viewers and I can see why! Elsa and Anna have been getting more and more popular and I think it was very smart of ABC to put them in Once Upon A Time, considering Frozen made $1.072 billion surpassing the $1.063 billion earned by fellow Disney/Pixar title Toy Story 3. They hit the nail on the head with this season!
