Recently, over 50 dogs and 6 cats have been rescued from a puppy mill in Rutherford County, N.C. Investigators discovered a woman tried in 2002 with animal cruelty charges.
The dogs, mostly of small breeds, were kept in deplorable conditions with a wide assortment of problems, such as matted fur, skin, eye and ear infections, and a host of parasites, living in their own waste. Several had died, others needed urgent veterinary care in order to survive
Authorities confronted the facility after hearing complaints of animal abuse. A woman with charged with animal cruelty, and with previously selling animals over the internet.
“The dogs were forced to live in an gregarious environment where profit was put above the welfare of animals,” said North Carolina state director for the HSUS Kim Alboum. “We're thankful to Rutherford County Animal Control for catching up to this repeat offender and that we were able to help these animals."

How To Treat Your Pets Like Royalty
an editorial by Jennifer Chiang
The fury members of your family needs just as much love and
care as humans do. If you choose to find a pet, you’re taking on a huge
responsibility. If you treat them right, both you and your pet will be happy.
According to http://www.foodsafety.gov/blog/treatfamily.html
You should always make sure your pet’s food and water bowl is clean.
Animals have bacterial microbes in their mouths which could resettle in
their bowl, and if there is food in that dish, it makes it a good place for bad
germs to live. Having bacteria living in your bowl can make your beloved
pet sick! Just like you wouldn’t want to eat or drink from a dirty bowl, it’s the
same for your pet, so clean the food and water bowls between meals or
every other day!Do you think it’s a good idea to leave leftovers out of the refrigerator?
Well if you said no, you’re right! In addition, it’s not good to leave your pet’s
food out either, so store it safely! If your pet’s food is moist, refrigerate or
throw away any wet food. Keep your pet’s food and treats stored away in a
cool place, under 80 degrees. Remember to clean and dry your pets food
container each time before filling them again with food!
Within a few hours, you have to go to the bathroom right? If you
haven’t realized yet, your pets do too! Every few hours, you should take
your dog out for a walk, so that they can do their business. As for cats, you
should clean out their litter box every other day or right after they go to the
bathroom to prevent odors. Nobody wants a smelly house!
In conclusion, one of the most important steps is to WASH YOUR
HANDS! Obviously you would wash your hands before touching or eating
food, but what quite a few people don’t know, is that you ALSO have to
wash your hands before and after you feed your pets. Keeping your hands
clean helps to resist your pet’s food from getting unfresh, so that bacteria
and microorganisms such as Salmonella can not make your adored pet ill.
Keep in mind that you should always wash your hands after and before
you handle your pet’s food and treats!
Hopefully after reading this article, you have learned how to give your
pet the treatment that he or she deserves! Now your pet can finally live like
royalty.
