No Hover Boards are Safe
By Sarah Burnett
Many people all over the United States have bought hover boards over this holiday season. Many of the brands of hover boards are “the brand to get”, because they are very expensive and claim to not catch on fire or explode, but in recent studies, no hover boards pass the UL standards. The UL standards (or the Underwriters Laboratories), will test the product and if it passes the Standard of safety test, the product will be certified to be sold as safe. In the past two and a half months, the UL has had 52 reports of hover board fires, causing over $2 million dollars in damage. “Consumers risk serious injury or death if their self-balancing scooters ignite and burn." Said a CPSC officer (Consumer Product Safety Commission). The hover boards are becoming so dangerous that many companies might have to start recalls on the hover boards. So remember, next time you want a hover board, ask yourself; Is it really worth the risk to burn your house down?
